Grok Bot vs Claude Code: the same stock research job, side by side
Updated on
Educational only, not investment advice.
This page sets up a fair Grok Bot vs Claude Code comparison for one stock research job. It explains how the test will run and what we will check. It does not give a result.
We have not run this comparison yet. The verdict and the scores for each tool will be published on this page, with a 'results as of' date, after the test.
What we are comparing
Grok Bot: you work with a Bot by messaging it. Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, a filesystem and a terminal, and work continues while your laptop is closed. Skills save a reusable method, and routines run it on a schedule (skills, routines and automations).
Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool that reads your codebase, edits files and runs commands. It is available in the terminal, in IDEs, in a desktop app and in the browser. It can connect to outside data sources through MCP, and it supports scheduled tasks (cloud scheduled tasks and desktop scheduled tasks).
We describe both from their official documentation only; neither has been tested by us for this job yet.
How the test will work
Both tools will get the same task: a fixed stock research brief, for example a written summary of one company's latest annual filing with sources. They will get the same inputs: the same brief text, the same source documents, and the same date. Each run starts in a fresh session.
We will run each tool several times and keep every run, including failures. For each test we will record the test date, the product version, the plan used, the settings and connectors, the exact prompt, the time to a finished output, and any human corrections.
Setup is allowed to differ per tool. Each tool is used the way its docs recommend, and that difference is recorded. The method is the one on how we test.
Scoring criteria
| Criterion | What we check |
|---|---|
| Output quality | Whether the finished write-up covers the brief and cites its sources. |
| Accuracy (made-up numbers or sources) | Every figure traced to a source; any invented number or citation counts against it. |
| Speed | Time from the start of the run to a finished output. |
| Cost | What the run used, noted when the test is run. |
| Setup difficulty | How much work it takes to reach a first finished output. |
| Reusability | Whether the method can be saved and run again later. |
How to choose
Ask yourself these questions. This page does not say which tool to pick.
- Do you want to work by chatting with an agent, or from a terminal and a code project?
- Do you need the job to run on a schedule without your computer on?
- Which apps and data sources must it reach?
- Who will maintain the setup?
- How will you check its numbers?
We will add evidence-based guidance here after the test.
Limits
- Every published result will carry a 'results as of <date>' line. Products change often, so an older result may not describe today's version.
- A handful of runs on one task does not generalize.
- Versions and plans change.
- This page covers one task type only, stock research. It is not a general ranking.
- A good research summary is not a good investment decision. How a later call would be graded is a separate page: Can AI pick stocks? how we grade an AI analyst. The general research template is not built for investing.
FAQ
Which is better for stock research, Grok Bot or Claude Code?
We don't know yet. We have not run the comparison and will not name a winner until we have results we can show.
What will you compare?
Output quality, accuracy (including made-up numbers or sources), speed, cost, setup difficulty and reusability, on the same research task with the same inputs.
Can I use Grok Bot and Claude Code together?
Some people already do. On X, one user describes a Grok Bot whose only job is to pass tasks into his Claude Code sessions, and a guide shows a Grok Bot installing Claude Code on its own cloud computer. We have not tested either setup; this page compares the two tools on the same job, one at a time.
Is this investment advice?
