Claude Motion: what Anthropic's animation tool does, and how it differs from Claude Code motion graphics

Updated on

Claude Motion is Anthropic's built-in way to turn a report, chart or idea into a short animation inside Claude. Anthropic's @claudeai account announced it in beta on 2026-10-08 (US time). This page sets out what Anthropic's own pages say it does, who can use it, and how it compares with making motion graphics in Claude Code with a renderer such as HyperFrames or Remotion.

Status: Not tested yet. Claude Motion is only on Team and Enterprise plans, and we do not have one, so we have not used it. Everything about Claude Motion below comes from Anthropic's help center, announcement article and announcement post, checked on 2026-10-24.

What Claude Motion is

Anthropic announced Claude Motion together with Claude Dashboards. In Anthropic's words, Claude builds an animation from your prompt "and it plays like a short video". The examples it gives are a 30-second explainer of a quarterly report for an all-hands, motion added to a chart in a board deck, and a product walkthrough for customer onboarding.

An animation is an artifact made from the Motion template. Claude writes code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images in it. Because it is code, Anthropic says you can change one word, number or timing and the rest stays as it was.

Who can use it

How you make one

From Anthropic's help article:

  1. From a chat: ask Claude for an animation, or choose Output > Motion in the message box.
  2. From the Artifacts tab: pick a Motion template and describe the animation.
  3. Edit: ask for changes in chat, such as slowing a scene or changing a number, or adjust it yourself in the editor.
  4. Export: click Export and choose MP4. Animations start private; Share makes one visible to others.

Anthropic's own tip: say who will watch it, where it will play and roughly how long it should be, and attach the report, data or images you want used.

What it does not do

Claude Code motion graphics: the other route

If you searched for Claude Code motion graphics, this is the same idea done on your own machine. Claude Code writes each scene as code, and a renderer such as HyperFrames or Remotion turns it into an MP4. Anthropic's help center says Pro and Max plans include Claude Code, and that its usage counts toward the same limits as Claude. Our one run of this route, with the versions we used, is written up in make a video with Claude Code and HyperFrames.

Both routes make the picture from code, so the strengths are the same: titles, diagrams, charts, captions and interface-style scenes. The difference is setup and control. Claude Motion needs no install but is limited to Team and Enterprise; Claude Code needs a working local setup but gives you the project files. The broader question is on can Claude make videos?.

FAQ

Which plans have Claude Motion?

Anthropic says Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. It is on by default on Team plans. On Enterprise plans it is off until an owner turns it on in Organization settings > Artifacts.

Can Claude Motion make realistic video?

No. Anthropic says Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it does not create realistic footage or people. It animates text, charts, shapes and images with code.

Can I download the animation?

Yes. Anthropic's help article says you click Export and choose MP4. Animations start private, and you can share one from the Share button.

Does Claude Motion cost extra?

Anthropic's help article does not list a separate price. It says Claude Motion counts toward your plan's usage limits, and longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message.

Is Claude Code motion graphics the same thing as Claude Motion?

No. Claude Motion runs inside Claude on Team and Enterprise plans. Claude Code motion graphics means Claude Code writes the animation as code on your own machine and a renderer such as HyperFrames or Remotion turns it into an MP4. Anthropic's Pro and Max plans include Claude Code.
